Join us for our next Archaeology on Tap talk at St. Michael’s Brewing Company in Navarre! FPAN’s Mike Thomin will deliver a talk titled “Maroon Marines: Archaeology at Prospect Bluff.”
During the War of 1812, a fort was built by Black British Colonial Marines and Indigenous people along the Apalachicola River. Called “Negro Fort” by American officials, it eventually became the center of the largest free Black settlement in what is now the United States. This talk highlights the history of this settlement and several artifacts recovered from the site that you can now view as 3D models online.
“Archaeology on Tap” is just like our long-standing program ArchaeoCafé…just hosted at a local brewery instead of a restaurant! “Archaeology on Tap” is free and open to the community, but is recommended for adults. Seating is unreserved. The talk starts at 6:00 pm CT and guests are recommended to arrive by 5:45 pm to place drink orders and claim a seat before the talk begins.
