Location: Polk State College, 999 Ave H, NE, WLR204, Winter Haven, 33881
Description: Established in 1850, Oaklawn Cemetery was the burial ground for "white and slave, rich and poor." But the wooden crosses marking the graves have mostly disappeared. Becky O'Sullivan of the Florida Public Archaeology Network, together with employees of the City of Tampa and USF as well as with community volunteers, is using some of the latest technology to piece together the history of this place and put the once unmarked graves back on the map. Come here Becky discuss this work at Polk State College.
