Monuments

Erected at first at the behest of veterans after the Civil War, Florida monuments commemorate events of the war that occurred on Florida soil as well as events in which Florida soldiers participated in other states.  Monuments within Florida also commemorate the sacrifice and contribution of the soldiers themselves--both Confederate and Union--and in some cases civilians involved in or affected by the war.

Although most Civil War monuments were erected within the lifetimes of veterans of the Civil War, they are still being erected today, generally by or with the assistance of veteran descendant organizations.
