Discover the Lost World of the Calusa Indians

On March 29th & 30th celebrate Calusa Days & Florida Archaeology Month at the Gulf Coast Visitor Center area of Everglades National Park. Learn about the prehistory and archaeological resources in the Ten Thousand Islands of Southwest Florida. Visit the Turner River and Sandfly Island Indian shell mounds, learn about how the Calusa lived, and try your hand at atlatl throwing, pottery making, mask painting, and more. Nature walks at 11 am & 2 pm. Activities are free except for the boat tours to the shell mounds. All ages are welcome.

Encounter real pirates, explore the Tampa Riverwalk, and check out the historic tall ship Nao Victoria, while searching for clues and dares leading to hidden treasure. Climb aboard the TECO Streetcar while talking like a pirate and using navigational skills to uncover mysteries behind the real pirates of Florida’s waters. FPAN will be on hand with underwater archaeology displays, shipwreck activities, and information on Florida\'s underwater shipwreck preserves! Return to the History Center for pirate’s booty, fantastic raffle prizes, and a costume contest, if ye be bold enough. Arg!
